Genesis is a portable environment for managing your multicloud infrastructure from a single CloudStack interface. It starts with a zone hosted directly within Genesis, then extends to the external capacities you choose.

Pricing

  • Activation: 399 CHF, Swiss VAT included.
  • Subscription: 189 CHF per month, Swiss VAT included, starting from activation.
  • Term: no minimum commitment.
  • Cancellation: 30 days’ notice effective at the end of a monthly period.

Starting Genesis Environment

  • 8 vCPU
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 128 GB NVMe or SSD disk
  • 1 public IPv4 address
  • 20 TB of outbound traffic per month
  • inbound traffic not counted
  • hosting in Europe

The listed resources correspond to the raw capacity of the Genesis VM. Genesis is designed to manage a multicloud environment, not to replace the compute capacity of your zones.

Other locations may be offered as close as possible to your needs. Specific location requirements are handled upon request.

Included Interfaces

You manage Genesis from:

  • the CloudCan page integrated into Cockpit;
  • the CloudStack interface;
  • the CloudStack API.

Default Zone

Genesis contains a default zone using nested virtualization. The workload VMs in this zone run inside the Genesis VM.

No separate commercial limit is applied to the number of users, projects, or VMs. You organize your cloud freely within the limits of the available resources.

Multisite Mesh Network

Genesis includes its own Headscale server. It provides the private mesh network used to connect and manage multiple sites or zones.

Resources created and managed by Genesis remain under its control regardless of the physical zone hosting them.

Adding an External Zone

Adding an external multicloud zone is not billed by CloudCan.

  1. Choose your compute hosts and NFS storage from the provider or at the site of your choice.
  2. Install AlmaLinux on the relevant resources.
  3. Enter their network information on the CloudCan page integrated into Genesis Cockpit.
  4. Retrieve the two generated scripts.
  5. Run them on the external hosts and NFS storage.
  6. Then use these resources from the CloudStack interface to build or extend your zone.

You contract and pay for external capacity directly with the provider of your choice.

The IP addresses required by workloads are provided by their respective zones. One public IPv4 address is included for Genesis. Additional addresses on the Genesis host are available upon request, with reduced mobility between providers.

Exporting the Complete Genesis Environment

The complete Genesis environment runs in a VM exportable in QCOW2 format.

You can:

  1. retrieve the complete Genesis environment;
  2. reinstall it on any compatible KVM host;
  3. point your domain’s DNS to the new public IPv4 address;
  4. resume managing your environment.

The QCOW2 contains:

  • Genesis;
  • the integrated Headscale server;
  • the default zone;
  • the nested workload VMs running in that zone.

The disks of workloads running in external multicloud zones remain in their respective zones.

Snapshots and Restoration

An automatic snapshot of the complete Genesis environment is created daily in QCOW2 format.

  • The seven most recent daily snapshots are retained.
  • Each snapshot covers Genesis, Headscale, the default zone, and the nested VMs in that zone.
  • You can request a complete restoration to one of these states.
  • Workloads located in external zones use the backup mechanisms specific to those zones.

Snapshots are used to restore Genesis at CloudCan. They remain separate from the exports provided to the customer.

Included Exports

  • 2 on-demand QCOW2 exports included per month.
  • Export of the current state or one of the seven retained snapshots.
  • 1 final export included upon cancellation, even if the monthly quota has been exhausted.
  • Additional export: 10 CHF, Swiss VAT included.
  • Download link valid for 7 days.

Automatic snapshots do not count against the export quota.

High Availability

The Genesis VM is configured for high availability on shared primary storage.

In the event of a confirmed failure of its host, CloudStack automatically restarts Genesis on another host in the same cluster and availability zone.

This recovery involves an interruption. No maximum recovery time or contractual SLA is guaranteed at launch.

Updates

CloudCan publishes updates for Genesis, CloudStack, and Headscale. You trigger them from the CloudCan page integrated into Cockpit by clicking Update.

CloudCan retains no privileged access to your Genesis environment.

After export and termination of the subscription, Genesis continues to operate. You have root access and become responsible for your updates. Hosting, support, and access to new CloudCan updates end with the subscription.

Monitoring and Support

The subscription includes:

  • monitoring of the availability of the Genesis VM and its hosting;
  • support through the CloudCan portal, with no guaranteed initial response time.

CloudCan does not monitor your workload VMs or applications. Additional support plans are available upon request.

Activation

Orders are processed Monday through Friday, from 09:00 to 18:00, Swiss time.

Activation generally takes a few minutes during these hours. The environment is made available no later than the business day following receipt of the order.

Encryption

  • active Genesis storage encrypted at rest;
  • snapshot storage encrypted at rest;
  • exports provided through a temporary authenticated HTTPS link;
  • QCOW2 delivered in a standard format directly usable on KVM.

After Cancellation

  • final export included;
  • download link valid for 7 days;
  • Genesis and its seven snapshots retained for 30 days after the effective end of the service;
  • early deletion available upon request;
  • permanent deletion after 30 days.

What Is Not Included

  • compute resources, storage, traffic, or IP addresses for external zones;
  • backup of workloads running in external zones;
  • monitoring of workload VMs and applications;
  • granular restoration of a file or nested VM;
  • guaranteed support response time;
  • contractual SLA.
